Job Description:
POSITION: Tenure-line faculty position, Microbiologist, Department of Biology (Assistant Professor).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning August 2015.
DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY: Central College's biology department currently consists of seven members committed to hands-on learning and research in the life sciences through classroom and field opportunities and one-on-one faculty mentorship. Students have access to state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment in the LEED-silver certified Vermeer Science Center and the nearby79-acre Carlson-Kuyper Field Station. Central biology graduates are currently changing the world as clinical and environmental researchers, field biologists, college professors, high school teachers, doctors, veterinarians, nurses, dentists, occupational therapists and more. 43%25%20of our graduates enter graduate or professional school after graduation; 92%25%20of these are admitted to their first or second choice program. Those who pursue careers after graduation work in a variety of fields related particularly in scientific and technical services and in health care. On average, 54%25%20of our biology majors study abroad at some point during their four years at Central.
Requirements:
Qualifications:Central College seeks dynamic candidates with a Ph.D. in microbiology or related field for our new, tenure-line assistant professor position. Candidates whose interests span the sub-disciplines of biology (molecular, cellular, organismal, ecological) are especially encouraged to apply. Our new colleague would be expected to teach microbiology and microbiology laboratory, a course in their area of specialty, and some combination of genetics, cell biology, or biodiversity. Special consideration will be given to candidates with an approach toward teaching that includes methods in genetic/molecular techniques and are interested in collaborative work with undergraduate students.
