Job Description:
POSITION: Full-time, tenure-line position, open rank (Assistant, Associate, Professor) beginning August 2015.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION: Central's recently re-accredited education department offers elementary and secondary education majors within a developmental learning model to prepare students to become effective educators. This unique model aligns with InTASC standards for teacher preparation and provides students with fundamental, developmentally appropriate coursework and experiences. The Central Teachers Academy (CTA) is an exceptional teacher preparation program, highly regarded in the state, and the only one of its kind in Iowa. In this innovative, collaborative partnership, CTA students are trained and paired with mentor teachers in the Pella Community School District and Pella Christian School for three years. The education department is comprised of dynamic and dedicated faculty and staff who work collegially with each other and students to support teaching and learning. Education is consistently one of the top five most common majors at Central. Over one third of Central's education majors study abroad prior to graduation. Our placement rates are exceptional and over 50%25%20of our majors earn Master's degrees after graduation. Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS AND TEACHING
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have an Ed.D. or Ph.D. (ABD considered) with a demonstrated commitment to, or track record of, college teaching excellence. The primary course responsibility will be teaching undergraduate literacy/reading courses, especially Teaching of Language Arts & Reading and Literacy Strategies. Candidate must have teaching credentials/certification and at least three years recent K-6 teaching experience in literacy instruction. Candidates will also have the opportunity to teach courses in Elementary Methods, Foundations of Education, Language Development and Learning, Reading Disabilities and/or courses in our liberal arts curriculum. Additionally, candidates will be expected to contribute to program development and assessment, advising and mentoring of students, and engaging in scholarship and service that contributes to the institution and profession.
